LANTA Awards Easton Coach Company Expanded Paratransit Contracts

Easton, Pennsylvania – March 22, 2006 – Easton Coach Company, a diversified provider of passenger transportation services, announced today that it has been named the successful bidder for a five-year contract to operate paratransit services for the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) Metro Plus program beginning on July 1, 2006. The Company has been operating under similar services for LANTA since 1988.  This recent award includes a portion of the Metro Plus program that is currently operated by another provider. Metro Plus is LANTA’s designated paratransit system that provides specialized door-to-door transportation services to eligible residents of Lehigh and Northampton Counties.  In all, the Metro Plus Division transports about 450,000 passengers annually with a fleet of more than 110 wheelchair accessible mini-buses.

Under the same bid, Easton Coach Company was also awarded a contract to continue to provide public transportation services on behalf of Carbon County Community Transit (CCCT).  LANTA, under an arrangement with Carbon County, manages public transportation within the county and to various points outside its borders.  Easton Coach has been providing these services for CCCT since 1996. “We are grateful for the opportunity to extend our longstanding relationship with LANTA and its shared-ride program, and we appreciate the chance to expand our service to the entire Metro Plus Division.  Easton Coach is committed to providing quality public transportation for LANTA and its customers throughout the Lehigh Valley” said Joe Scott, Easton Coach’s President.  “Now our primary focus is on the hiring of people and the planning for an expanded operation in the Lehigh Valley,” commented Charles V. Palmeri, Easton Coach’s Vice President/General Manager and project leader for the LANTA and CCCT contracts.  “We have already dedicated the last several months to preparing for our expanded responsibilities on July 1st.  We are hopeful that the drivers and other operations personnel that currently work for the other provider will consider continuing their service to the Metro Plus customers as employees of Easton Coach Company.”

In addition to the contracts with LANTA and CCCT, Easton Coach also provides public transit and paratransit services in Hunterdon County, New Jersey (the County’s “Link” system) and also in Berks County and Hazleton, Pennsylvania.  The Company also operates a private fleet of 28 motorcoaches and 15 other vehicles for charter, line-run and other contracted purposes.  In all, Easton Coach Company operates 170 vehicles with 270 employees in four locations throughout the greater Lehigh Valley.  The company has been in existence since 1984 under various names and was most recently incorporated as Easton Coach Company in 2002.  Easton Coach is a member of the American Bus Association, the United Motorcoach Association, the National Tour Association, the Pennsylvania Bus Association and the Pennsylvania Transportation Association.  We are also proud members of the Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
